about the NLP Foundation Skills course
that journalist Carmel Thomason wrote after attending it (includes
interviews with two other participants, including England Squash Coach
Annette Pilling, about the personal and professional benefits they got
from the course)
Emotional Intelligence is now acknowledged to be vital in every aspect of life - for successful relationships, for achieving your full potential, and for career stardom. NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) - the 'owner's manual for the brain' - provides the 'how-to' technology you need to increase emotional intelligence.
Why take this NLP Practitioner Certification?
This is the first NLP Practitioner training in the UK deliberately designed around developing emotional intelligence. Firmly grounded in the latest scientific discoveries about the brain and the emotions, this training will open unlimited possibilities for you and show you the right way to get there.
At a deeper level, this course provides a safe, empowering environment for you to make personal breakthroughs in how you relate to yourself and the world. It's very important to us to set up an empowering, inclusive group dynamic so you feel good as you learn. In contrast to some practitioner courses, Part II will be a small group training (maximum 16 students) to ensure you get all the individual attention you need (NB Part I may have up to 24 students).
- high quality
- full 120 hours
- affordable
Optionally, you can take the Goleman/Hay Group Emotional Competence Inventory (ECI’Ѣ) assessment before you start the course and again after the course to get an objective measure of how much you increase your emotional intelligence by doing the course. This option is offered at cost (currently £190+VAT) and includes two free one-hour debrief sessions. As far as we know we are the only NLP Practitioner training offering this objective assessment.
NB because of the nature of the ECI assessment, it is best suited to people in management or key professional roles within an organisation, as you will need contributions from a number of peers and direct reports to complete your assessment.
What will you learn on our Practitioner Certification?
The modelling of human excellence by the NLP community over the last 25 years has been distilled into patterns and techniques for enhancing these 'competencies' of emotional intelligence:
| Self-Awareness | knowing
yourself and what your emotions are telling you |
| Self-Regulation | being
able to manage and control your own emotional state |
| Motivation | using
your deepest preferences to move you towards your goals |
| Empathy | recognising
and reading emotions in others |
| Social Skills | relationships,
persuasion, dealing with 'difficult' people, negotiation, teamwork,
coaching |
| Learning and Transformation | learning
from your emotions at the unconscious level, allowing you to
make life-changing shifts rapidly and gracefully |
We cover the recommended syllabus for practitioner training set by the Professional Guild of NLP. This means that you will learn the classic patterns and techniques of NLP, including:
- The presuppositions of NLP
- How to establish rapport with anyone quickly and easily
- Pacing and leading: how to influence with integrity
- Sensory acuity
- Modelling excellence: the heart of NLP
- Establish a link between your conscious and unconscious minds

- Strategies: eliciting existing strategies and installing new ones
- Applications: using NLP in business, negotiation, education and training, sales, therapy, marketing, relationships...
- And more...

How you can learn so much so quickly?
Our training is designed to help you master this material at both the conscious and unconscious levels, so you can actually use it as well as knowing it intellectually. Also, it's important to us that you enjoy yourself as you learn. You will receive a comprehensive practitioner manual to support your learning.
Our aim is that our practitioners achieve a level of mastery of NLP which is normally only seen at master practitioner level. Are you ready?
Who should take this course?
Previous students on our practitioner course have included NHS professionals, HR managers, coaches, therapists, teachers, business owners, IT professionals, and trainers. Generally, we are looking for friendly and emotionally stable people who are looking to increase their self-awareness, personal effectiveness, and people skills.
Some students are looking for a new direction in their lives; some are in business and need the edge that state-of-the-art communication and influencing skills provide; some work in the healing professions and feel drawn to the magical therapeutic skills that NLP can give you. Though you will need good written and spoken English, there are no formal qualifications needed for entry - just you, your unlimited potential, and your enthusiasm to learn.
In a few short months you could be an NLP Practitioner, facing the new Millennium with new confidence in yourself and your abilities to fulfil your true potential. What couldn't you achieve?
Who are the trainers?
Andy Smith is the principal trainer on this course and is present throughout. Andy is a certified NLP trainer (Advanced Neuro Dynamics 1997) and has been using NLP with clients for 10 years. Andy is an accredited deliverer of the Goleman/Hay Group Emotional Competence Inventory (ECI) 360 degree emotional intelligence assessment.
We also bring in an associate NLP trainer, Kirsty Jackson, to help with your assessment for the final two days of the course. Click here for more about us and our philosophy.
How is the course assessed?
Certification is not automatic - we want our practitioner certificates to mean something. You will be assessed in a number of ways:
- continuous assessment during
practice and exercises on the course
- an 'open-book' written examination that you complete in your own time
- at the end of the course, working with a 'guest client' for a
two-hour coaching session
Most students find it takes about two days in total to complete the examination, so please allow for this. There is no additional home study or 'homework' required, though the more you study the better you will be.
You will also keep a 'learning log' of the significant points and breakthroughs that you get each day for your own reference.
What can our Practitioner Certification do for you?
What couldn't you achieve in your chosen field if you had heightened awareness, the ability to access your own inner resources whenever you need them, a better understanding of how people and organisations work, if you knew how to model the excellence of inspiring people you meet...
